Why I Love My Husband

Because he texts me AC/DC lyrics, and includes the phrase "scream accordingly."

He's so awesome.

Dear Mountain View, CA-
Just add me to your blogroll already.

Love,
Gin

Check it: J and I have been MadMen-ified.

I look kind of hot in a scarf, no?

J is asking Don Draper, "This is a pretty swingin' joint, but where are all the hot bitches, daddyo?"

Go Mad Men yourself, pick up the amazing second season, and catch the premiere of the sure-to-be-awesome third season on August 16.

P.S. Please welcome J to the club; he finally knows about This Here Blog, and contributed his caption (see, I don't make that shit up).

Conundrum

Today's Lunch: Easy Mac at work. It was hot enough to melt my "premium plastic dinnerware", which freaks me out a little, but I don't have anything else to eat and it will take me too long to leave to get anything.

Q: So Gin, how's your weekend going?

A: I woke up in a panic in the pre-dawn hours, thinking about all the things I need to work on for an important meeting next week, the one that was conceptualized on Thursday afternoon, the one that as of 3 p.m. Friday was moved from Tuesday to MONDAY MORNING, the one that I CAN'T prepare for just yet because of a server outage until 1 p.m. today.

So at 6 a.m. I was cleaning out my large bathroom drawers as silently and nearly in the dark as possible so I wouldn't wake J. Because that's what sane people do.

Stupid brain.

Even more shuttle crew wake up songs

Weeks ago, when I thought of posting these, it was going to be a quick daily thing. Not so much. Oh, well.

Tuesday July 21, Flight Day 7

“Life Is A Highway” by Rascal Flatts, for rookie and EVA crewmember Tom Marshburn.

Wednesday July 22, Flight Day 8

“Santa Monica” by Everclear, for rookie pilot Doug Hurley.

Thursday July 23, Flight Day 9

“Tiny Dancer” by Elton John, for commander Mark Polansky.

Friday July 24, Flight Day 10

“Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd for Dave Wolf.

Saurday July 25, Flight Day 11

"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel for Tom Marshburn.

P.S. To my knowledge, John Cusack did not blast this from a boombox floating in space outside the vehicle, although that mental picture is kind of funny.
P.P.S. Cheesy as it may sound, this song is still a panty-melter.
P.P.P.S. Sorry if that was TMI, but I was speaking in general terms.
P.P.P.P.S. Or maybe very specific terms. And I'm not really sorry.

I seem to have misplaced my mascara this morning, and I am gravely disappointed and out-of-sorts. Putting gunk on my eyelashes makes me feel better about myself.

Happy Birthday, George Clinton - you old Atomic Dog.

More shuttle crew wake-up songs

On Sunday July 19, the wake-up song was for EVA crewmember and rookie astronaut Chris Cassidy, "Learning To Fly" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

For this morning, Monday July 20, the theme from the 1960's TV show Thunderbirds was played for Julie Payette.

LOVE this!

P.S. Happy 4oth anniversary of the moon landing! The experienced members of the crew cite that moment as having a profound influence on their lives and their decision to pursue fields in manned spaceflight. You can catch crew interviews, as well as more mission coverage and all manner of geeky space stuff, at NASATV.

Wow, some pretty deep analysis of the public's reaction to and fascination with Michael Jackson's life and death.

Saturday, July 18, 2009

I meant to start this yesterday, but I, uh, didn't.

Each morning on orbit of a shuttle mission, the crew gets a wake-up song, usually something chosen by family or friends.

Friday morning, their song was 10,000 Maniacs' "These Are The Days", chosen for Tim Kopra.

P.S. Can I just say how much I LOVE the very-nineties-ness of Dennis Miller's mullet, and Natalie Merchant's bell-sleeved babydoll dress.

Today kicked off the first of five spacewalks, and "Home" by Marc Broussard was played for lead EVA crewmember Dave Wolf.

I also get that not everyone is interested in the worthless trivia and minutiae of the current shuttle mission, and you all will probably tire of it and start skipping my posts.

I don't care.

I worked long and hard to aid in what is sure to be their continued success. This is one of the longest and most challenging shuttle missions ever, and there are only a handful left. This is history.

I'm a little obsessed, and I'm not ashamed. So SUCK ON THAT, GEEK-HATERS!

So in one of several procrastinatory efforts today, I updated my blogroll. But dude, I don't know about you, but I read most everything in Google Reader, so I rarely see anyone's actual blog. Your header could read "GIN IS AN ASSHOLE, 'GIN IS JUICED' IS DRIVEL THAT NO ONE SHOULD READ, GIN SMELLS LIKE GREASY FARTS", and I would still be leaving comments on your posts, "Hearts! Stars! Horseshoes! Clovers and Balloons!".

So if you are also in need of some procrastinatory (I am digging on that word) tasks, look over there ====> and check out what I've added.

Another kind of countdown...

7/12/09

14:49 Gin: Watching the crew board the shuttle. OMG! It's real! Have already gotten a little teary.

Jamie: Yay!!!!!

17:49 Gin: But now weather looking iffy again - keep fingers crossed!

Jamie: Dude I will kick the weather's ass if it turns bad.

Gin: You're the Best. Friend. Ever.
Obsessively watching this today....

Sweet, now I have an excuse for my recent pottymouth: Swearing really DOES help the pain.

I hate Meeting Days – I feel like I get nothing accomplished but making rows and rows of teeny tiny stars on my scratch pad in an effort to keep myself from nodding off.

Have been feeling like my time has been getting so subdivided that there is nothing left.

Monday, July 6, 2009

I have spent the last couple of hours building and carefully formatting, tweaking, and perfecting a spreadsheet. I have bars and shapes and a key denoting 12 different color codes. Everything is spaced Just So; it is perfection. I can't begin to tell you how much it pleases me to have built this (and yes, I have been saving obsessively). An awesome spreadsheet, sad as that may sound to some, is probably the best thing - perhaps the only good thing - to come out of today. I'll take my Happies where I can get them.

Just 10 hours of this stinky Monday left - WOO-HOO!

Happy 4th of July!

From our driveway to yours. :)

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

I am plugged in and jamming to my MP3, in an attempt to motivate myself to a more productive state, instead of the Meh mood I've been in due to the upcoming long holiday weekend.

I have it on my Rock Out playlist, and "Jump Around" came on. I went into the hallway to grab something off the printer, and was checking out my spreadsheet and doing some faux-gangsta-frat-boy-swaggering when I looked up and saw that there are actually other people here at work and walking down the hall. Hmmm. ExcusemeIjusthadacrickonmykneesorrythankshaveaniceday.
