My marriage may depend on it...

I need your help.

John and I have had an ongoing disagreement for weeks now, and neither of us will budge. I need some assistance.

It's about tacos.

Namely, "taco" vs. "wrap". We have very conflicting philosophies when it comes to the use of tortillas.

Wrapped in foil, fresh from a local mom and pop - THIS is a taco.

My definition of a taco: a delectable concoction served on a tortilla with a combination of some or all of the following ingredients: seasoned spicy beef, chicken, pork, or shrimp, refried or charro beans, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sour cream (not to mention the assortment of breakfast foods that could go in there too, like eggs, chorizo, and fried potatoes [omg that sounds awesome]).

John's definition of a taco: anything on a tortilla. Like, anything.

J: "I could put sausage and sauerkraut in a tortilla, and it would be a taco."
G: "That's fucked up."

My definition of a wrap: anything on a flatbread (not just tortillas) that does not involve any kind of typically Mexican food, especially if it includes Ranch dressing.

McDonald's chicken wrap with honey mustard sauce. NOT A TACO.
John's definition of a wrap: a yuppie word for taco.
Help us out, y'all. We need to break the cycle of anger.
Who is right?

Gin for the Win.

Same tortilla outside. Different ingredients inside, does not matter. When you roll them up, still a taco.

So riddle me this. When I go to any one of the numerous fast food joints at 8 am and order eggs, bacon, potatoe and cheese all clad in a tortilla is it called a breakfast taco and at 1 pm when I order a chicken strip, lettuce and cheese still clad in the same tortilla >>SHAZAMM!!!>> it mysteriously transforms into a wrap. Again, if it's in a tortilla it's a taco.

Tortillas are magic Mexican flour discs.

Gin, I have been reading your blog from backwards to forwards, and I wish I had a girlfriend as cool as you!

But um, John wins.

Sorry but Gin is absolutely right. Tacos are mexican in nature. A wrap is anything that isn't.

End. Of. Story.

Gin...winner. She's totally right.

John,

I am sorry, but your logic is all wrong. And I think your fast food story actually proves Gin's point, not disproves it.

See, a tortilla does not make it a taco. What is inside the tortilla makes it a taco. The reason it was a wrap at 1pm was because it had a CHICKEN STRIP in it. It is actually common to find potato served in your Mexican food, hence taco. Although, I will say it is a stretch when the potato comes in hash brown form.

PS. Thanks for making crave What-a-Burger. Although, really it is just their ketchup I love. It really is fancy.

LOL @ Trish....and I agree, now I want some What-a-burger. I actually asked them once if they sold their ketchup in bottles.
